Foods to avoid symptoms of Acid reflux

The foods you eat affect the amount of acid your stomach produces. Eating the right kinds of food is key to controlling acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Generally, Acid reflux happens because gastric glands in a stomach produce more acid than needed. This acid going back through the Lower esophageal sphincter (LES) may be due to weak LES.

Gastric glands produce acid for the digestion of foods that we eat. So, foods affect the amount of acid that produces by glands. It means you need to eat the right food to control your acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

1. Vegetables

Veggies are very helpful to reduce acid production in the stomach and it is due to they contain low fat and low sugar. Some of the good examples are potatoes, leafy greens, broccoli, beans, etc.

These all are highly alkaline which means they are good for your digestion system.

2. Oatmeal

One of the best fiber-rich food. Fiber is a helpful option for lowering the risk of acid reflux in your stomach. It is best suited to eat at breakfast so that, you can get enough fiber in your stomach at the starting of your day.

You can also go with other fiber options such as whole-grain items.

3. Ginger

You can use ginger for the natural treatment for acidity. Natural anti-inflammatory properties are present in ginger which helps to control symptoms of heartburn.

It can be added to your diet in various ways.

4. Yogurt

The soothing effect of the yogurt helps to keep stomach problems away. Yogurt also has probiotics which can be called good bacteria and this bacteria found in the digestive tract that gives a boost to your immune system.

It is also a good source of protein, which improves your ability to digest food.

5. Healthy fats

Unsaturated healthy fats are the best replacement for saturated fats and trans fats. It can help to control your heartburn. You can found healthy fats in avocado, walnut, olive oil, flaxseed, sunflower oil, add this in your diet.

6. Noncitrus fruits

These fruits are low-acid fruits or alkaline fruits, that can help you with acid reflux by coating an irritated esophageal lining and thereby helping to fight discomfort. Noncitrus fruits include bananas, melons, and pears.

This type of fruit is less likely to trigger symptoms of acid reflux than acidic fruits.

7. Egg whites

You can eat egg whites to control your heartburn. But don’t eat egg yolks because in egg yolks are high in fat and cholesterol that may trigger reflux symptoms.

Lean meat and fish are low in fat and reduce symptoms of acid reflux. So, they also can be eaten.

Yet no diet has been proven to prevent GERD.

Research shows that increased fiber intake in the form of fruits and vegetables may protect against GERD. So, Increasing your dietary fiber is a good idea because fiber not only helps in GERD but also helps to reduce the risk of high cholesterol and uncontrolled blood sugar.
